I’ve spent a couple of weeks interviewing candidates for both legal and procurement roles and I wanted to share with you some ways in which I think you can crush your upcoming procurement interviews.

  1. Make sure you’ve genuinely understood the JD and research your responses.

  2. Procurement is fundamentally moving on from cost reduction to risk management and other value adding activities.

  3. Be confident - easier said than done but this should come naturally if you’ve prepared

  4. Preparation - think of what questions might come up and prep for them. There’s usually 3 types of questions: personal (getting to know you), technical (understanding your commercial skills and if you understand how to procure, risk manage, contract manage) and situational (scenarios that you’ve been in that highlight your technical skills).

  5. Have questions about the company

  6. Take your time - don’t waffle and get in a fluff.
